Emotion Pathway® for Emergency Services

Exposure is part of the job.  Carrying it doesn't have to be.

Emergency-service employees can be exposed to difficult and distressing experiences as part of their work.  Sometimes the emotional impact of those experiences continues long after the incident itself has passed.

Emotion Pathway® gives people a practical skill they can use for themselves, quickly and privately, when they recognise something is continuing to affect them, without having to wait for an appointment or disclose what happened.

It works alongside existing wellbeing and support pathways, giving people something practical they can do earlier.

What if support started earlier?

Emergency services already have established wellbeing and support pathways.  But these are often accessed after someone recognises they are struggling or reaches the point of needing additional support.

Emotion Pathway® introduces an earlier step, giving people a skill they already know how to use when something first begins to affect them.

Existing support remains there when it's needed. Emotion Pathway® gives people something before that point.

A simple 5R framework

Emotion Pathway® gives people a simple process they can remember and use for themselves:

Recognise • Reassure • Release • Return • Reflect

The Release stage draws on The Manse Method® principles to help change the emotional response connected to the experience.

Practical support without disclosure

People retain their privacy while having something practical they can do for themselves when they recognise an experience is still affecting them. They don't need to explain what happened, justify how they feel or wait until the impact becomes more difficult to manage.

Emotion Pathway® gives them the autonomy to take action early, while existing support remains available whenever they need it.

From training to real-world use

Emotion Pathway® is taught before the difficult situation happens, so people already have a skill they know how to use when something affects them.

Rather than having to find support in the moment, they already have a practical process they can draw on, quickly, independently and wherever they are.

Designed for emergency services

Emotion Pathway® is designed for environments where exposure to difficult experiences can be frequent, unpredictable and simply part of the working day.

Training is practical and structured, giving people skills they can use around the realities of operational work, without requiring lengthy interventions, appointments or time away from the job.

What if we could reduce what people carry?

People working in emergency services will continue to see and experience things that most of us never will.  We can't remove that reality from the job.

What we can do is equip them with practical skills to work with the emotional impact of those experiences earlier, before one incident becomes another thing they simply learn to carry.
